“Beyond Prisons: Faithfully Confronting the Challenges of Mass Imprisonment” — hosted by the Reformed Church of Highland Park (19 2nd Ave., Highland park, NJ 08904).
Friday 6:30-10:00 p.m. there will be a screening of the acclaimed documentary The House I Live In, followed by discussion and a service of lament.
Saturday 9:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m. will feature workshops led by local pastors, artists, and activists:
• Bonnie Kerness – race, political suppression, police surveillance
• Nyle Fort – War on Drugs, school-to-prison pipeline, racism
• Five Mualimm-ak – solitary confinement, prison abuse
• The Rev. Errol Cooper – reentry, felon disenfranchisement
• The Rev. Vanessa Wilson – restorative justice, healing communities
• Jean Ross – administrative segregation, letter-writing, prison oversight
