Congratulations to the five students who received Unity Awards from Not in Our Town at a reception at the Carl A. Fields Center of Princeton University on May 3. The awards honor young people who are role models in their efforts to promote respect for diversity and to advance the cause of race relations.
Left to right: Wilma Solomon (NIOT board member), Ashlyn Liverman and Moses Mahiri (students at John Witherspoon Middle School), Papa Kojo Kuranchie, Sawsan Al-Jahli, and Chelsea Mia Pierre (seniors at Princeton High School), and Fern Spruill (NIOT board member).
Anyone may attend the Princeton High School awards ceremony on June 3, when Kuranchie, Al-Jahli, and Pierre will be recognized again. The JWMS awards ceremony is June 16.
NIOT is an interracial interfaith social action group united to advance the cause of racial justice in Princeton. Princeton’s superintendant, the JWMS principal, and the high school principal were among those who spoke that day. Here are some more photos of friends and families.
Afterwards, everyone enjoyed the refreshments, especially the caviar cake!
