When white supremacists posted recruitment flyers on the Kutztown University campus, the community responded. They formed a coalition, Kutztown Resist, and held a rally and march on February 16.
Anti-oppression activist and middle school history teacher, Beth Patten, sent the following message:
“On a positive front, Kutztown University has mobilized against hate. They held a Unity Rally a week after the white supremacist posters were distributed, created an anti-racist group on campus, and made art out of the posters. http://www.berksmontnews.com/article/BM/20170216/NEWS/170219934 and https://www.kutztown.edu/news-and-media/news-releases/february-2017/ku-community-to-create-art-to-promote-unity.htm. Obviously, there is a lot of support. on the university campus.”
Indeed, it is important to understand the forces working against social justice, calling the attitudes and behaviors what they are “hate,” and identifying the many barriers.
