“The Authenticity and Solidarity: Answering Our Call to Civic Engagement and Community conference is an intersectional and interfaith conference brings people of color, members of LGBTQIA (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, questioning, intersex, and asexual) communities, members of marginalized or underrepresented communities, and our allies together to share our stories about civic engagement – the many forms of individual and collective actions designed to identify and address issues of public concern. As members of underrepresented groups, we have both strengths and challenges when we engage communities to address public concerns and to improve the quality of life. We will open conversation about our civic work, effective strategies and obstacles, as well as what these experiences mean to us and how they have affected us personally. We will also explore what these experiences teach us about the ways communities engage difference and change. This conference will invite the multiple student and alumni affinity groups, faculty and staff, and members of the community together to engage in discussions, workshops, and community actions.”
