The inaugural fundraiser with the goal of building a public memorial to the 177+ African Americans who were sold into permanent slavery in 1818 by a corrupt Middlesex County judge who resided in East Brunswick. Four ships sailed holding both enslaved and free persons, some young children, into the Deep South. The second ship sailed on May 25. Each year, we mark this appalling episode in our local history around Memorial Day to re-member these Lost Souls back home.
