Journey Through the Past

Visit the True Farmstead and newly-restored Mt. Zion AME Church next month for Somerset County’s annual JOURNEY THROUGH THE PAST weekend. SSAAM is one of more than 30 local historic sites that will welcome visitors with fun and educational activities for the whole family.

Join us on SATURDAY OCTOBER 8 & SUNDAY OCTOBER 9 for:

MUSEUM TOURS – Explore the newly renovated Mt. Zion AME Church and historic True Farmstead

QUILTING WORKSHOP WITH DR. RONAH HARRIS – Help us complete SSAAM’s first community quilt, to be displayed at the museum

HAIR-BRAIDING DEMOS – Experience the art of hair braiding in the African American tradition

STORYTELLING – Learn what life was like growing up at the True Farmstead from Pat Payne, a 5th-generation descendant of Friday Truehart

CRAFTS – Make fun, unique, and wearable art supporting African American history and culture in the Sourland region

HOMEMADE PIES & TREATS – For sale to benefit SSAAM programming!
