Where: Hughes Justice Complex

Faith-based and civil rights groups across the country are working to limit the use of solitary confinement of both adults and juveniles confined in local, state and federal “correctional” facilities.
In New Jersey, The American Civil Liberties Union, in partnership the American Friends Service Committee, the National Religious Campaign Against Torture, the People’s Organization for Progress and four other national and grassroots organizations, has begun a campaign to limit the use of solitary confinement in New Jersey, by filing a Petition for Rulemaking with the Juvenile Justice Commission(JJC). The Petition asks the JJC to amend its regulations for treating young offenders, citing the psychiatric literature, criminological scholarship, and other legal developments to support its recommendation for the end of all solitary confinement in juvenile detention facilities.
