This event is posted in the Fields Center newsletter. Though it is primarily for students, surely others would be welcome — and the notice on this blog serves as an awareness alert. White people may not be aware of the importance of this issue for blacks.
On Friday, October 10, Princeton Caribbean Connection, in conjunction with Princeton Association of Black Women and the Black Student Union, will be hosting a film screening and discussion about the politics of Black hair. We will be showing the documentary “In Our Heads About Our Hair.” The documentary “In Our Heads About Our Hair” explores hair as one of the defining features of self-identity within the African Diaspora community. Perspectives on hair and how it shapes self esteem are shared by the many women and men of New York interviewed in this film. Historical and political roots of the matter and issues of tradition, romance and career are addressed with humor and candor.
