September’s Continuing Conversation on Race and White Privilege will be held on Tuesday, September 6, because of the Labor Day holiday.  It will start at 7 pm at the Princeton Public Library, 65 Witherspoon St.  New to the conversation and have questions?  Come 15 minutes earlier and Not in Our Town members will be there to talk to you.

Tuesday’s topic: What do you say when you don’t know what to say? How to start a conversation about race.

People who would like to start a conversation about race with family, friends, co-workers, etc. sometimes don’t know how. Also, people often say that they don’t know how to respond when they hear someone make a racial slur, joke, or more subtle, but still prejudicial statement. This month, the session begins with a “fishbowl,” watching a conversation about race. Participants can then brainstorm and practice responses in small groups.
