Lynching in America: Confronting the Legacy of Racial Terror

Bryan Stevenson, founder of the Equal Justice Initiative, narrates this powerful video that briefly illustrates the history of lynching of black people in the United States by white terrorists.  Stevenson explains EJI’s project to memorialize the victims of these crimes and promote community’s taking the responsibility for their part in them and work towards truth and reconciliation.

    The Equal Justice Initiative is only a video. As such, it give a very summary account without details. I would urge readers to consult the work of Ida B. Wells, 1892 and after, who single-handedly documented post-Reconstruction lynchings throughout the US (not only the so-called “DixieSouth”).
