Streaming now on the NJ PBS website: “The Price of Silence” Parts 1 &2

Two and a half years in the making, this Truehart Productions documentary fills a gap in NJ history by telling the little-known story of slavery across the state.

“New Jersey is known as the Garden State,” Beverly Mills says in Part 1. “We’re known for our blueberries. We’re known for our corn. But we’re not known for the slaves that were here tilling the soil. We’re not known for the whole history of slavery connected to New Jersey and how slavery was the underpinning of much of the wealth of New Jersey.”

The film features interviews with SSAAM co-founders Elaine Buck and Beverly Mills, Board President John Buck, and historian & staff member Isabela Morales.
